Plan for our trip to Canada:
You'll notice a whole load of empty there. The things we definitely want to do are:
The Zoo or Science Centre will be done on Friday, depending on the weather. Weather's good, so we're going to the Zoo. Richard does want to see the Science Centre before he leaves, so we'll need to schedule that in somewhen.
The theme park will be after the wedding, on Tuesday and/or Wednesday. It may involve two days if we do the rides and waterpark as two separate days, or one veeeeerry long day if I can acquire sufficient
baratron-compatible food for that.
epi_lj and
okoshun have suggested the Royal Ontario Museum on Monday 2nd.
Feel free to suggest meeting up for dinner. I am vegan but Richard eats anything. Chinese and Indian always work well (even your average, run-of-the-mill, meat-serving Chinese can make at least one thing I can eat), Italian is often good, American-style burgers & meat places are usually bad. I'm looking at the Happycow listings for Toronto and getting in a muddle - nowhere seems to have exclusively good reviews. The one thing I do know is we won't be going to Buddha's Vegetarian Foods at 666 Dundas St W, as pretty much all the reviews said it was greasy, and my grease tolerance is far lower than the average person's. We might go to the Cafe 668 Vegetarian Restaurant next door at 668 Dundas St W, as it has an equal mix of good and bad reviews.

Date: 2007-06-28 12:57 am (UTC)Okay, let's meet up for dinner, then.
Chinese and Indian always work well
Little India, perhaps, on Queen in the Entertainment District? On Tuesday the 3rd, perhaps?

Date: 2007-07-05 04:42 am (UTC)My plans for tomorrow (by which I mean Thursday - I know it's technically Thursday now, but I haven't been to bed yet, therefore Thursday is still tomorrow) involve mostly shopping in random locations downtown, most likely around Queen Street West and Kensington Market. What I'll do is call you when I'm up & sorted out, and we can try to make some plans.

Date: 2007-06-28 02:22 am (UTC)Which sucks. But I love the camp and I love being in charge and I love the pay too.
I didn't end up meeting up with you when we were both in the London Science Museum on the same day either, so maybe that makes me just a flake.
Have a wonderful trip!

Date: 2007-06-29 02:54 pm (UTC)I guess that's a measure of the net-world getting smaller or something - like it's no longer a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to meet up with a net friend from a different continent. There will be other times.

Date: 2007-06-28 03:07 am (UTC)- My fave place is Kings Cafe (http://www.kingscafe.com/). I *love* the Soy Fritters. Everything I have ever tried there is super yummy. The majority of the menu is vegan, the rest is vegetarian (and is clearly indicated)
- Vegetarian Haven (http://www.vegetarianhaven.com/) is also really good. All vegan I believe. Mmmm chocolate cake. So good.
- Fressen (http://www.fressenrestaurant.com/fressen/index.html). I've only been there a couple times. More expensive...smaller portions...pretty good though.
- Affinity (http://veganworldorder.vegguide.org/vendor/view.html?vendor_id=2874) - this place is actually in Hamilton...I only recently discovered it. The menu is almost exactly like Kings Cafe. Very yummy. Great service. Affordable.
HAHA hope you don't think it's too weird I posted. Just figured I'd point you in the direction of some fine eats while you're visiting here! Cheers!

Date: 2007-06-29 03:29 pm (UTC)I love your Sick on Sin stuff - ordered a whole load for various people's birthdays last year :)
Yesterday, the airline managed to feed me but the food was terrible - not as bad as when I was in hospital (which has become my new standard for awful vegan food), but close. It was salad, fruit salad, salad sandwich, and overcooked tofu (so hard it was rubbery) and green beans in soy sauce on overcooked rice (so overcooked I couldn't tell if it was brown or white). I *have* had decent airline food before (vegan chocolate chip cookies etc), but that was on United, who I now won't fly with after the stuff stolen from bag incident. This time we were going with mega-cheapo Air Transat, so the fact they even offered vegan was a big deal.
When we got into Toronto itself and were walking to the hostel, we passed a place called the Urban Herbivore which had a sign outside advertising muffins, and I just kinda staggered in there and went "CAAAAAAKE" incoherently until I got one. Very nice - spelt & banana base with apple and walnut chunks as the flavouring.

Date: 2007-06-29 02:25 pm (UTC)What I didn't do is bring If & Oksana's address out here with me, and we still haven't arranged anywhere to stay from Sunday night onwards. Hmmm.

Date: 2007-06-28 01:00 pm (UTC)Fressen is well-liked but I think overpriced. I've never been blown away by it, but the pricing is at a level where I expect to be blown away at least some of the time. It is also all-vegan.
There are a lot of great vegan options at Fresh, which there are three locations of around the city, well-situated. I think that they may also have some non-vegan stuff, but they're very vegan-friendly.
There are lots of other places in town where a vegan can eat that aren't explicitly vegan. It's a pretty easy town to get by in as a vegan.

Date: 2007-06-29 02:53 pm (UTC)I think we went to Simon's Wok last time we were here (in 2000), but it's not terribly near where we're staying.
Can I stay with you on Wednesday until I leave on Saturday? It'll be just me, as Richard will have gone home, and I'm fairly small and inoffensive ;) If you can't cope with a houseguest for that long, let me know and I'll just come for some of the time.

Date: 2007-06-29 02:58 pm (UTC)I don't think we have any conflicting plans on Monday, and hanging out with you folks would be cool. :) What are your opinions on meeting other locals you don't know at all? My friend
